1. First, you have to find a photo of dry mud. This one is 478 X 500, but any size will do as long as it's not too small.

2. Then just invert the image. Image> Adjustments> Invert.

3. Next, using the Eliptical Marquee Tool, select a circle somewhere in the center. Make sure there is plenty of room around the edges. After you have a circle selected go to Select> Inverse, or you can right-click in the circle and 'Select Inverse'. Then just delete the area around the circle

4. Now go to Filter> Sharpen> Unsharp Mask. You won't see a major change. (This step is optional. You can try it without it and see the different effect it gives.)

5. Now go back to Filter> Distort> Polar Coordinates. Make sure 'Polar to Rectangular' is selected and click OK.

6. Go to Image> Rotate Canvas> 90 degrees CW.

7. Back to Filter> Stylize> Wind. Have 'Wind' and 'From the Right' selected. Click OK. Repeat.

8. Rotate image 90 degrees CCW.

9. Filter> Distort> Polar Coordinates. Switch it back to 'Rectangular to Polar' and click OK.

10. To add color-  Image> Adjustments> Hue/Saturation. Check the 'Colorize' box and move the Hue slider all the way left or right to give it a red tint.

11. Now you can go to Image> Adjustments> Color Balance and adjust the sliders until you get the look you want.

12. Check out the Outer Space tutorial to learn about adding stars.

13. Finally, to make it look more realistic go to Filter> Render> Lens Flare and add a few inside the cracks of the planet.
